I am a graduate student in Environmental Sciences at Oregon State University. My master’s research focuses on restoring salmon habitat in the lower Willamette River near Portland, Oregon. Urban and agricultural development in the Willamette Valley have heavily altered the biological, physical and chemical condition of salmon habitat in the Willamette River and its tributaries. We can use GIS as a quick and cost-effective means of identifying high impact restoration projects that will contribute to the recovery of threatened and endangered species of salmon in the Willamette River basin. The annotated bibliography that I developed demonstrates the use of GIS applications in river restoration with a focus on the Pacific Northwest region.
